ROLE PLAY
Disaster in Alligatortown

Alligatortown Chronicles
By R. P. Birt

What Everybody Knows

Disaster strikes the region of Alligatortown. A monsoon with record winds creates devastation and completely destroys the Alligator River Toll Bridge and the Sinbad and Sons fishing fleet. In an act of desperation J.T. Mayor calls on Greg Sr. (owner of the factory and toll bridge) and Sinbad (owner of the fleet) to head the Disaster Recovery Project committee to unite the community and begin the clean up and reconstruction. Both refuse unless they are named Chair and are given the authority to appoint the committee members.

There was no disaster insurance for the town. Unless the community provides resources to contribute to the effort, the Hippotropolis Government will not declare Alligatortown a disaster area. J. T. asks the parties to put aside their differences and to meet with a neutral

Sinbad Greg Sr.

If you rebuild your bridge and I do not get my boats rebuilt, you will control the town.

If my bridge is not rebuilt, I will not repair the factory and will retire to the south.

Your factory is using illegal methods of harvesting the alligators and has been losing money for years. Without the bridge revenue you would be broke. Everyone knows that.

That is not fish that you are carrying down the river at night. When was the last time you actually caught a fish?

When we were partners in the old days, you didn’t mind what I carried for you.

I helped you get your families here and every time I turn around there is another Zorian family arriving in town.

Notes on Mutual Interest

Both parties will suffer economic and social loss if they continue in a deadlock. Both do not trust each other since their falling out years before. They are under pressure from their families and the community to work something out.
