. 0-Overview
Running XAMPP with 'alternative porting' creates the opportunity to have a suite of applications that: 1) can run concurrently with a local development server and 2) be run either from the desktop or a removable USB drive.
Applications that may seem 'too robust' at first blush, can take on interesting new roles...
The first step was to create a portal page with a menu bar to integrate the 'web apps' into one suite. The portal also contains links to to a number of software sites.

. 1-XAMPP
The XAMPP portal provides not only the system information but phpMyAdmin for managing the MySQL data base.

. 2-vTiger
While vtiger is a very robust CRM, it runs very well even from a USB drive. It integrates all of the customer care functions and can keep track of inventory too.

. 3-DockuWiki
With the spell check built into Firefox, a Wiki makes a really good text editor as well as a document manager. It also has a 'file as you go' capability that makes it easy to keep track of things.

. 4-WorkBench
This is the first of 3 differently configured Singapore photo image galleries. It is configured to create thumbnails from the daily shots, in the same format as the web site. The benefit is being able to do editing 'as it would appear on the site'.

. 5-Gallery
The second Singapore photo image gallery holds the final shots used on the site.

. 6-ScreenShots
The third Singapore photo image gallery is configured to produce the material for the listings gallery or for putting together presentations...like the one you are viewing now.

The PStart menu sitting in the tray keeps everything handy.
This suite is very 'browser based' and uses a number of Firefox add-ons. Thunderbird's RSS capability is very useful for tracking postings besides its obvious email and scheduling functions. XnView is really a work horse for editing and batch converting to web spec's.

. 8-Structure
All of the applications, including the XAMPP server package with the dtx-control, are located in the ZFDesktop directory. The DTX suite also uses this main folder as the DocumentRoot.
This allows all of the 'data' to be contained in Data_Store rather than buried in the structure...making it easier to back up as well as manage the data. While this would not be a good practice for a web site, the suite is secured through the Apache and MySQL configurations.
Since all Apps and data are in one folder, the suite is very 'portable'.
