New XAMPP Launch Control

Monday, July 02, 2007

A new launch control for XAMPP and XAMPPlite is available for testing Here This control is part of the DeskTopXampp project and is being developed by the ZedFiles Project in collaboration with Nat32 and Apache Friends. It will be released as Open Source once testing is completed.

The primary feature is the support of 'alternative porting' of both Apache and MySQL to avoid conflicts with existing sessions and to allow 'concurrent sessions' for testing or multiple configurations. These are important issues for the PortableApps community.

The DeskTopXampp project will not roll out until later this summer but I thought that making this app available for testing now was timely.

ZedFilesSuite Updated

Friday, November 10, 2006

ZedFiles 3.2 contains many important updates. Mozilla Firefox 2.0, OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 and Friends of Apache’s 1.5.4a are major releases which lead the list of the 39 applications that have been upgraded since the last ZedFiles update was made available for public distribution.

Looking ahead, ZedFiles version 4.0 is expected to be released in the winter of 2007 with the new OpenChannel 3.0 intranet suite and several new packages. It will also contain major changes to the framework to simplify the updating of individual packages.

Open Source Software has come of age. In the five years that Ridgewood Foundation has been compiling the ZedFilesSuite, we have reviewed and tested hundreds of Open Source software applications. A mature and stable core of applications are emerging which are setting the standards for quality and functionality.

ZedFiles 3.0.1 Final Released

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

The new ZedFiles release has been finalized and is now available.

A complete listing of all of the programs is available on the website along with the directory framework. It is the most comprehensive package that we have ever been able to assemble.

The new release was tested on a number of different computers. What was very surprising was that it was still able to run (a bit sluggish mind you) on the oldest of our test machines, a PII/233mmx/96 IBM that is over 8 years old. This speaks really well for the Open Source Communities’ ability to create programs that do not rely on massive amounts of CPU and memory. The median test machine was a PIII/650/256.

We have made arrangements for FTP downloading of a special compressed self-executable package (185 mg) for non-profit or community organizations which have access to high speed connections. Please contact us for further information. The ZedFilesCD is available through the normal distribution arrangements.

There are so many people to thank for their contributions to the project. Please visit their sites and show your appreciation, even if it is to leave a simple thank-you.

A Special Thank You!

We will continue using Blogger for a bit longer while we port this new ZedFiles Theme to Textpattern. Once the porting is done, we will make it available on Textgarden in a couple of different variations.

It has been such a treat to work with a professional who is not only talented but has the ethic of taking that extra step that makes something not only magical but functional.

Pat Heard, FullAhead.org (sometimes better known as SNOP) has earned the respect of one fussy client and a big thank you from Ridgewood and the ZedFiles Project for not only putting together the new site but an interim Blogger template too!!! That is the extra mile :)

Thanks Pat...What a great job.
